Joan Ballard
Personal Injury & Criminal Defense Trial Lawyer
"I learned how to stop thinking about “winning at lawyering” and started thinking about how to talk to people."
Joan Ballard is a trial attorney practicing both plaintiff’s personal injury and criminal defense. She earned her board certification from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law in 2016, a distinction shared by only 6% of Texas attorneys. But the driving force behind Joan’s work is to connect—with clients, with juries, with judges, and, yes, sometimes even prosecutors and insurance defense counsel. Through roughly 200 hours of psychodramatic training with John Nolte, Katlin Larimer and Mike Traynor, reversing roles is natural and effortless. Joan takes every opportunity to practice her skills with Dallas attorneys, who often bring in Don Clarkson, and work groups in both Dallas and Los Angeles. Joan has put her skills learned from studying the Gerry Spence Method in September of 2012 and discovering the story regional to good use. In roughly forty jury trials, Joan has achieved some remarkable results, including a verdict of over $5.1M for two young men who were electrocuted while moving a flagpole near power lines and a not guilty verdict for continuous aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, which carries a sentence of 25 years to life, in a conservative county.
