SAN ANTONIO, Texas, February 7, 2022 — U.S. Federal District Court Judge Xavier Rodriguez issued a $230 million verdict today against the United States government for its role in causing the shooting at Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church on November 5, 2017.
Claiming the lives of 26 people and seriously injured 22 more, the mass shooting was the deadliest in Texas history. The verdict will compensate more than 80 family members of victims and survivors who filed suit against the government.
Victorious trial lawyer Rob Ammons says: When I filed the first of the Sutherland Springs Church shooting cases against the Air Force on behalf of Pappa Joe Holcombe as well as our other clients, I knew that holding the U.S. Government accountable would be a hard-fought battle. But fighting against powerful adversaries in the face of long odds is what being a trial lawyer is all about. The Court’s $230 million dollar verdict is a result of a team effort and is a very important step forward in our quest to bring honor to the lives that were lost and justice to the families impacted by the 2017 massacre.
